“At first I looked around, but couldn’t find the car I was dreaming about. So I decided to build it myself.” Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger has also followed this guiding principle of Ferdinand Porsche. As head of human resources of a large international agricultural company in the Oldenburger Münsterland, he realized already 20 years ago that none of the existing HR consultancies could meet his high expectations. Even the few large and reputable service providers of qualified HR consulting usually lack the expertise and the right language to understand companies and top executives in the industry and to bring them together in a sustainable way. In 2002, he therefore founded his own consultancy, with the aim of creating a discreet and confidential contact for career-oriented job changers and successful companies in the agribusiness.
Since January 2020, Rainer Haske has been shaping the future of the company as Managing Director alongside Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger. In Germany, we provide you with experienced employees nationwide, with three locations in Emstek, Berlin and Ulm. We serve the international market in cooperation with well-known and trusted partners from all over Europe. Trust, solidity and partnership are the values to which we are committed since our foundation. They form the basis for the cooperation with clients and applicants. We attach particular importance to getting to know the employer and candidates personally. Only in this way we can understand and reconcile the mutual interests. After working as a personnel manager for a leading global agribusiness firm for many years, Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger realized none of the existing Human Resource consultancies could meet his high expectations for human resource acquisition. Consequently, 2002 he founded the Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consulting to fulfill his high standards of a discreet and confidential agency. Since then, we are the partner for professionals who plan and advance their careers strategically and companies looking for engaged employees in the agribusiness.
The construction of our new company building at Garther Straße in Emstek started in 2009. The team of Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consult – now consisting of 10 employees – moves into the new building, which represents our high quality standards to the outside.
In the beginnings of Dr. Schwerdtfeger, the company had mostly consulted medium-sized companies and owner-managed concerns in the northwest of Germany. Through the years, an additional branch specialisation has evolved – the agribusiness. Consequently, Dr. Schwerdtfeger Agri HR Consult was established apart from Dr. Schwerdtfeger Regio HR Consult at the end of 2012.
Furthermore, Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consult celebrated its 10th anniversary within the scope of a large event. Mr. Joey Kelly, member of the musician’s family and later on extreme athlete and public figure, talked to approximately 150 guests at the Catholic Academy in Stapelfeld as guest speaker.
Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger and his team got awarded a great honour: The Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consult is appointed TOP CONSULTANT 2016 and is therefore now officially considered as one of the best consultants in Germany.
Companies with an extraordinary, customer-oriented as well as medium-sized focused consultancy can receive the award TOP CONSULTANT. Furthermore, the label can be used as reliable orientation for medium-sized companies seeking advice in a rather confusing market.
Another highlight of the year is the opening of a new branch office in Ulm. The new office is located in the business centre of Ulm with historical ambience of the so-called “Alten Stadtregals” – a strategic location to access both, interesting agricultural companies as well as exciting candidates better and faster.
As of January 1st, Dr. Schwerdtfeger Human Resource Consulting transforms from an individual company to a private limited partnership and now operates under the name Dr. Schwerdtfeger Personalberatung GmbH & Co. KG. The consultants Rainer Haske and Dirk Grave, who have both worked very committed for Schwerdtfeger for years, became authorised signatories. Dr. Schwerdtfeger remains sole managing director of the company with its now 15 employees. The background of the new organizational structure is the evolution of Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consulting to a national and international active business.
Dr. Schwerdtfeger is co-founder of the new, European-wide network “IARA” (www.i-a-r-a.com). The International Agribusiness Recruitment Alliance connects Human Resource Consultancies, who work in the agricultural business throughout Europe. Together with partners from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France, Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consulting tries to meet the challenges of a globalising world, in which human resources become the most valuable assets for companies.
In addition to the headquarter in Emstek and the branch office in Ulm, two new offices, located in Berlin and Warendorf, were inaugurated as part of Dr. Schwerdtfeger’s national expansion strategy. The strategic locations in important German agriculture clusters serve as a basis to enhance national recognition and to better access good candidates.
As of autumn 2018, management diagnostics is part of our service offering. Our firm is supported by external partner Caroline Timmermann, career coach and accredited Insights-consultant, who consults MNCs and SMEs likewise for many years in their HR management and talent development. Offering diagnostics, we want to further ensure to pick the best matching candidate for our clients and also reduce possible struggles in the on-boarding phase.
We are happy to be again announced as TOP CONSULTANTS in 2019 and as such to be part of the best consultants in Germany. We are particularly proud that our clients continue to value and appreciate us as trustworthy, innovative and competent HR experts and partners in the recruitment of executives and experts.
As of the beginning of the new decade, Rainer Haske, former authorized signatory and team leader Agri, jointly runs the company as CEO together with founder Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Many of our clients, especially owner-operated medium-sized companies do not only lead successful companies, but also recognize their responsibility as entrepreneurs for the society as a whole.
Since the founding of Dr. Schwerdtfeger HR Consulting in 2002, we see and follow this social commitment. We are engaged in various social programs which address and promote those people that are not as privileged as we are.
Local Support
We support a regional organization for children with cancer diseases, on a professional and financial basis. Also, we are part of a foundation which assists young people with learning issues to start out on their careers. Furthermore, Dr. Clemens Schwerdtfeger co-founded the local civic-trust of Emstek and supports local sports.
International Responsibility
We face social issues beyond the borders of our region as well, as we promote and support talented students in South Africa who grow up in difficult family constellations, via the organization “Freundeskreis Wakkerstroom e.V.”.
